The De-Escalation and Crisis Intervention Training

  • Do you engage with youth in a school, group home, residential treatment facility or foster care setting?
  • Are you part of your organization’s crisis intervention or de-escalation team?
  • Are you looking to train your staff on appropriate and practical methods for managing misbehavior?

Then the Beaver Valley Intermediate Unit’s (BVIU) TACT2 training series may be for you.

What is TACT2?

Therapeutic Aggression Control Techniques-2nd Version (TACT2) is a trauma-informed, competency-based crisis intervention program that features training on behavior management and crisis de-escalation. It also includes instruction on childhood trauma and adverse childhood experiences. The BVIU, located in southwestern Pennsylvania, is a national TACT2 training center. Training will be held at New Horizon School on June 16-19, 2025. Sessions are limited to 16 participants. Click here for pricing information and to register.

Our Program

The BVIU’s TACT2 program is a train-the-trainer model that is safe, realistic and practical. The course is facilitated by Dr. Chris McCabe, a certified TACT2 Master Trainer. Participants will learn to:

  • Distinguish between true emotional crisis and functional, deliberate misbehavior.
  • Better understand the impact of trauma on youth’s behavior.
  • Skillfully de-escalate emotional issues with calming and listening skills.
  • Effectively manage deliberate misbehavior with limit-setting and fair consequences.

Therapeutic Behavior Management

Optional cross-training in Therapeutic Behavior Management (TBM) is also available. TBM applies key concepts of TACT2 to today’s elementary and secondary settings.
