Thank you for inquiring about the Emergency Substitute Program. The Program, which is endorsed by the Pennsylvania Department of Education, the fourteen (14) school districts in Beaver County, the Beaver County Career and Technology Center and the Beaver Valley Intermediate Unit helps you obtain an Emergency Permit to serve as a day-to-day substitute in local school districts in Beaver County. The intent of this program is to increase the number of available substitutes for our public schools.
In order to qualify to be an Emergency Teacher Substitute, the candidate MUST possess a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
In order to qualify to be a Substitute School Nurse the candidate must hold a PA RN license to perform those duties.
Emergency Teacher Substitute Information
In order to be eligible to receive a Type 06 Emergency Substitute Teacher Certificate for this school year, please read all directions carefully. All required documents can be downloaded using the quick links to the right.
The cost of the training will be $40.00 by check or money order made payable to: the Beaver Valley Intermediate Unit. Please complete the registration form and return it with payment. As soon as payment is received, you will get a confirmation email with instructions on when to attend your training class. Plan on training to take 2 – 2 ½ hours.
After you have sent the registration form and payment, you can begin working on required documentation and email all forms to me at annie.gilbreath@bviu.org

Background Clearances are required, (Act 34 – Criminal Record Check, Act 151 – Child Abuse History, and Act 114 – FBI Criminal Background Check.) Follow the instructions on the website link for obtaining clearances:
PDE – 6004 – Act 24 of 2011– Arrest/Conviction report
Act 168 of 2014 – Sexual Misconduct/Abuse Disclosure Release form- a form needs to be filled out for any prior employment where you worked with children. (Multiple forms may be needed)
PA Act 126 – Child Abuse Recognition and Mandated Reporting Training. This is offered online at no cost at: reportabusepa.pitt.edu Required class time is 3 hours. Information is included on the clearance information document.

Substitute School Nurse Information

Once the permit is received from PDE it will be sent to the districts on your preference form. The district will contact you with information regarding district-based orientation and training.
