For more than 40 years, the BVIU has worked in partnership with the public schools in Beaver County to provide a continuum of special education services for students with disabilities. Whether students attend one of the 14 school districts or the four charter schools in the county, services are offered in the least restrictive environments. BVIU provides the following programs and services.
Audiology/Hearing Support – The Audiology and Hearing Support Program provides specially designed instruction to students with hearing loss. The goal of this program is to effectively educate students with hearing loss, to the greatest extent possible, in regular education environments.
Behavioral Support – Behavior Support: Strategies and interventions designed to improve and manage student behavior, promoting positive outcomes in educational settings.
Curriculum & Instruction – The Curriculum Department provides support and resources in the areas of continuing professional education, instructional technology, professional development and others.
Early Intervention Program – The BVIU Early Intervention program provides support and services to families with children ages 3 to 5, with developmental delays and disabilities at no cost to the family.
English Language Learners (ELL) – The K-12 English Language Learners (ELL) program serves students and districts located within Beaver County as well as surrounding areas. Designed for learners who need direct daily instruction in English, the ELL program provides a research-based curriculum that focuses on the language acquisition process.
Fingerprinting – The Central Office is an official IdentoGO site for who need fingerprint services for clearance applications.
Instruction & Technology – BVIU’s Instructional and Informational Technology department helps schools and educators incorporate leading-edge technology to achieve the maximum impact on student achievement.
Mental Health Services – BVIU provides a wide range of mental health services for students and their families in a variety of classroom and home-based settings.
Non-Public Schools Program – The Non-Public Schools Program serves students in non-public schools in Beaver County.
New Horizon School/New Horizon North – For students whose educational needs require center-based services, BVIU offers New Horizon School. Students can receive a wide variety of services including emotional support, life skills and multi-disability support. Opened in 2023, New Horizon North is a satellite extension. The center-based program facilitates the development of critical skills as well as academic, social and vocational skills that support a successful transition from school to adult life.
Special Education Administrative Services – BVIU provides a variety of special education-related services to help school administrators effectively support children with special needs.
Training and Consultation (TaC) – The BVIU Training and Consultation (TaC) program provides technical assistance and professional development to the county’s school districts.
