For students with more complex learning needs, the Beaver Valley Intermediate Unit offers New Horizon School—a safe, supportive, and engaging school for children and young adults ages 5 to 21.

At New Horizon, we focus on the whole child—academics, social and emotional growth, behavior, and life skills. Our students have a range of needs, including autism, learning disabilities, emotional and neurological challenges, and other health impairments. No matter the need, our goal is to help each student learn, grow, and succeed.

We welcome students from all Beaver County schools and provide a wide range of services, including:

  • Speech and language therapy
  • Occupational and physical therapy
  • Vision and audiology support
  • Counseling and behavior support
  • Community-based instruction
  • A full-time certified school nurse
  • Extended School Year (ESY) services

Our school is nestled in a quiet, country-like setting just a mile from downtown Beaver. The building is one story and fully accessible, with 25 classrooms arranged in four pods, each with its own indoor and outdoor spaces.

Special features include:

  • A sensory room
  • Two gyms
  • A playground and pavilion
  • A swimming pool
  • A music room, home-making suite, and library
  • An auditorium, therapy rooms, and full-service cafeteria

Our caring, qualified teachers and staff follow Pennsylvania education standards and stay up to date with the best practices in special education.
