The Beaver Valley Intermediate Unit (BVIU) serves children and youth across Beaver County, Pennsylvania. We provide services to 14 school districts, New Horizon School and the Beaver County Career and Technology Center.  In addition, the agency serves five area charter schools and 11 non-public schools. Our specialties include special education, professional development and administrative support services.

Intermediate units are regional educational service agencies that provide services and resources to students and families across Pennsylvania. Through cooperation and collaboration with school districts, the Pennsylvania Department of Education and community-based agencies, intermediate units work to provide innovative, responsive and cost-effective programs that benefit schools and the children they serve.

One of the commonwealth’s 29 intermediate units, BVIU is governed by a 14-member board of directors. Board members are selected by their home school district’s board.  No more than one director from each school district may serve on the intermediate unit’s board at one time.  An advisory council comprised of the 14 local district superintendents meets monthly to review programs and services.
