At BVIU, our Assistive Technology Department strives to help schools leverage technology that maximizes student success and independence. Assistive technology refers to any tool or device that enhances the functional capabilities of students with disabilities, allowing them to better access the curriculum and succeed in school. BVIU’s Assistive Technology Department supports local school districts by providing consultations and hands-on training for educators, support staff and families. Our services include:

  • Student assessments
  • Recommendation and implementation of tools, such as communication devices, screen readers and adaptive software
  • Training and professional development on classroom integration
  • Ongoing support for educators, staff and families

We collaborate closely with teams to create inclusive environments where all students can thrive and access educational opportunities. To initiate the consultation process, please complete at least one of the forms below.

  • Assistive Technology Consult Request – This form is to be completed for a student who may need assistive technology in the academic content areas (i.e., communication is not a barrier).
