Beaver County, Pa. — Construction at New Horizon School continues to move forward at a steady pace, with several major milestones completed and additional work underway as the project advances toward a targeted substantial completion date of August 14, 2026.

Over the past several weeks, crews have made significant progress across both structural and interior phases of the project. Abatement work and carpet removal have been completed, clearing the way for continued renovation. Exterior improvements are also underway, with brick restoration in progress.

Interior Updates
Inside the building, major construction efforts are taking shape. Framing for new classrooms has been completed, and drywall installation is actively progressing. Finishing work, including taping and surface preparation, has already begun in several classroom pods. Early interior finishes are now visible, with painting underway in the administration and library areas.

Infrastructure/Exterior Updates
Key infrastructure upgrades are also advancing. A new gas service line has been installed, water heaters have been replaced, and HVAC pipe and duct installation continues. Electrical rough-in work is ongoing, including preparation for rooftop mechanical systems. In addition, the existing fire alarm system has been fully tested and cleared of any issues. Preparations are also complete for the installation of new storefront windows and aluminum windows. Installation is expected to begin by the end of May.

Looking Ahead
In the coming weeks, work will continue across multiple fronts. Crews will complete final floor preparation, continue drywall installation and finishing in remaining areas, and begin installing HVAC equipment following its scheduled delivery in May. Additional work will include roof modifications, continued electrical system installation, new fire alarm device installation, and the start of ceramic wall tile work.

New Horizon students and staff were forced to move out of their longtime home at the start of the 2025-2026 school year when widespread mold, along with asbestos, was found inside the facility. While funding was secured and remediation progressed, New Horizon temporarily relocated to the Charles J. Betters Innovation Center in Midland. Throughout this period, teachers and staff have demonstrated exceptional dedication and care in maintaining a consistent and supportive learning environment. Their commitment to students during this challenging transition has been critical, ensuring continuity of instruction and support.

SitelogIQ is managing the rehabilitation project; their operations follow initial remediation work by Intertek PSI Solutions. This work represents a major step toward restoring New Horizon School as a safe, modern, and fully equipped learning environment for students with complex special needs. The restoration of New Horizon School remains on track to allow the facility to reopen for the 2026–2027 academic year– nearly 12 months to the day after New Horizon students and staff were forced to relocate.BVIU and New Horizon look forward to welcoming students and staff back to the improved New Horizon campus. Additional updates will be shared as construction continues and new milestones are reached. For media inquiries, please contact BVIU Spokesperson Charles Deitch at marketing@bviu.org.
