Nestled in the heart of Western Pennsylvania, BVIU’s New Horizon North School offers more than just a classroom—it offers a community built on support, understanding, and the belief that every student deserves the chance to thrive. Serving students with special needs from Mercer, Butler, and Lawrence counties, New Horizon North creates a safe and nurturing environment where growth is not only possible, but expected.
Much like its sister program, New Horizon School, this center is designed to meet the needs of students who benefit from a more intensive level of support. Through a focus on academic achievement, social-emotional growth, behavioral development, and real-world vocational training, students are guided along a path that prepares them for a smooth transition into adult life.
Our Core Services Include:
- Autistic Support: For students who benefit from highly structured environments, this program emphasizes communication and behavioral development, with a strong speech and language component to enhance expressive and receptive language skills.
- Emotional Support: Students who struggle with attendance, peer relationships, aggression, or withdrawal find a supportive setting where emotional and behavioral needs are addressed through structure, positive reinforcement, and therapeutic strategies.
- Extended School Year (ESY): Learning shouldn’t stop in the summer. ESY provides continuity for students who risk regression, ensuring they maintain progress and stay on track with individualized goals set by their IEP teams.
- Learning Support: With a focus on adapting the general education curriculum, students receive targeted, standards-based instruction to meet their academic goals while developing confidence and independence.
- Life Skills Support: For those who require more significant curricular modifications, this program emphasizes functional academics and daily living skills—preparing students to manage real-life responsibilities.
- Multi-Disabilities Support: Students with complex needs benefit from coordinated care that may include medical services, therapies, and instruction that supports both learning and personal growth in a compassionate, team-oriented setting.
- Transition Services: Starting as early as age 14, transition consultants work closely with students, families, and schools to create personalized plans for life after graduation. Whether the next step is college, work, or independent living, the goal is always the same: to empower every student to build a meaningful and fulfilling future.
At New Horizon North, we don’t just teach students—we prepare them for life. Through our comprehensive services and dedicated support, we help each learner reach their full potential, one step at a time.
