Paraprofessionals

Chapter 14 regulations define Paraprofessionals as school employees who work under the direction of a certified staff member to support assist in providing instructional programs and services to children with disabilities or eligible children.

All instructional paraprofessionals must meet one of the following qualifications:

  1. have completed 2 years of post-secondary study.

  2. possess an associate degree or higher.

  3. meet a rigorous standard of quality as demonstrated through a state or local assessment.

Also, instructional paraprofessionals shall provide evidence of 20 hours of staff development activities, annually, related to their assignment. Additional opportunities for instructional paraprofessionals may be provided at the BVIU to assist individuals in acquiring their 20 hours of staff development.
