Karen Mathianas, M.Ed. CCC-SLP

Karen Mathianas is a certified licensed Speech Language Pathologist who has been providing speech and language services for 40 years.  Karen began her career at Chambersburg Hospital in the acute rehabilitation department and then moved to the Altoona Area to work for Appalachia Intermediate Unit with school age students.  Karen met her husband Shawn and moved to Beaver County in 1985. She worked at the Beaver Valley Geriatric Center, now Brighton Rehab and McGuire Home.  She started working for Easter Seals, now Lifesteps, in 1990 when Joshua her son needed a daycare setting.  Karen worked at Lifesteps until 2007 as the Supervisor of Speech Services overseeing the early intervention and adult speech programs as well as providing in home 0-3 evaluations in Beaver, Butler, Lawrence and Mercer Counties.  Karen has an extensive clinical background, leadership experience, and has mentored many young professionals over the years.  In 2007, Karen joined the staff at the Beaver Valley Intermediate Unit as a Speech Language Pathologist in one of the early intervention special education classrooms.  This life change was a big move returning to day to day therapy.  After an early intervention program validation, Karen’s current position was posted.  Karen knew that she her skills would be perfect for this position.   As the Early Intervention Service Coordinator, Karen is able to meet all the children and their families in the program, work collaboratively with staff, and assist in program development.  Karen and her husband Shawn reside in Beaver.  Their son, Joshua, daughter-in-law Donn, and grandson, Jayme, reside in Hilton Head, SC.  Spending time with them at the beach is definitely in the plans for the future.
